Electromagnetic radiation
« on: March 10, 2017, 09:33:22 PM »
Electromagnetic fields (and EMR) even at low frequency are cited in various studies (see Bioinitiative, for example) as harmful to the human body (a carcinogenic, etc.). Since the BFST wraps involved electromagnetic energy, how are they safe? I'm sincerely interested in your products. Thanks.

Hi there, Thanks for your enquiry Jay. We have lots of information about the BFST on our Forum (and our website www.kingbrand.com) - how it works, information about the technology, its safety and efficacy, our belief in producing the highest quality products possible, as well as the fact that the BFST is an FDA and Health Canada registered Medical Device (meaning the device has undergone tonnes of R&D, is safe to use and that we can substantiate our claims). You can absolutely rest assured that the BFST is completely safe :)

The below information has been copied from elsewhere on the Forum, but I think you'll find it of interest as it gives a good insight into what the BFST device is and what you can feel. Also take a look at the link underneath, as this should further help put your mind at rest about any health and safety concerns.

"The BFST is a diathermic device that stimulates sub-dermal tissue. It will stimulate blood flow deep within the soft tissue, providing nutrient-rich blood and optimized blood flow to the area being treated. This energy does not penetrate to your bones. Diathermy is well recognized and accepted by the medical community as an effective means of promoting sub-dermal blood flow in order to speed up healing and recovery times.

The BFST product uses proprietary technology and is an advanced diathermic device over older technology like Ultrasound. For example, you would probably treat yourself with Ultrasound for 10-15 minutes at a power level of about 1W over a very small area. With the BFST you would be treating yourself for 20 minutes at a time, with about 10W of energy, using the unit over a much larger target area. That's 10x the power for a longer duration. And the treatments promote the blood flow for a longer period after treatment. It is also much safer than Ultrasound (as there is no risk of small, localized sub-dermal tissue damage) and does not interfere with implanted medical devices like Microwave and Shortwave devices do. It's really just newer technology that does a much better job.

Our Energy Webs produce Electro-Magnetic Energy (EMR) well below the more dangerous visible light frequencies, (within the ultra-safe bands of the EMR spectrum at very safe power levels), at a frequency that is far above the highly magnetic frequencies like Shortwave. We feel our technology is superior to Shortwave, Ultrasound, Microwave and IR LED.

The Energy Web transmitter is flexible and has been ergonomically shaped to form fit. The Wrap is form-fitting, supportive and manufactured to medical quality standards. In fact, our devices are FDA and Health Canada registered, and King Brand Healthcare Products is an FDA registered and a Health Canada certified medical company.

During treatment some users experience a heating sensation, but the device is NOT a heating pad. A heating pad merely heats the surface of the skin whereas the BFST device penetrates deep below the skin to stimulate blood flow. BFST improves circulation and promotes faster healing - Heating pads don't.

King Brand is constantly investing in R&D and one key focus of the product development behind our Energy Web is to find ways to increase the diathermic output, while simultaneously reducing the amount of heat the device produces. There is still some heat produced by the device as a bi-product of generating our diathermic energy, but we are always trying to reduce this undesirable component of the process. That we design our product to produce as little heat as possible is the most significant difference between BFST and heating pad technology - The two technologies have diametrically opposed modes of operation.

We recommend all new users start their BFST treatments at Level 1. If a heating sensation is experienced, the level used should be decreased until heating is no longer present during a treatment. Only then should the next level be used. The heat bi-product of BFST treatments works to lessen the effectiveness of BFST, so better results are gained at a lower setting where no heat is felt rather than when the area feels warm. There is no need to move up quickly in levels; many people never treat themselves at Level 3.

Unfortunately some people find the heat soothing and this encourages them to move up levels prematurely.  It's not harmful to do this, so if you find pain relief from the warmth of a session this isn't going to cause harm, you just won't get as much blood flow benefit from each treatment; flushing the area with blood from heating interferes with the device's ability to penetrate deeply."

Feel free to also take a look at Topic: fda registered products  http://www.kingbrand.com/forum/index.php?osCsid=&topic=91.0  which has a great flow of information relating to questions that come up relating to our BFST claims and how the FDA fits in. Also, if you'd like to call us toll free on 1844-400-2525 we're always happy to help.

Thanks much for your response. Very helpful.

Just one more question: could explain what you mean by the following paragraph from your post:

Our Energy Webs produce Electro-Magnetic Energy (EMR) well below the more dangerous visible light frequencies, (within the ultra-safe bands of the EMR spectrum at very safe power levels), at a frequency that is far above the highly magnetic frequencies like Shortwave. We feel our technology is superior to Shortwave, Ultrasound, Microwave and IR LED.

In one case at first part of paragraph, it seems to be good to have a low frequency, and for the other, a much higher frequency ("far above"). How does such work?

Many thanks.

Referring to English wikipedia.org Diathermy article, both shortwave and microwave have been used for Diathermy treatments.

While the distinctions in EMS wavelength are a reflection of history (lack of previous recognition of the EMS being a continuous spectrum) is somewhat arbitrary, there is no gap between them. Thus the answer of above shortwave and below microwave does not make sense.

The FDA.gov website contains an overview on Diathermy dated: "2016-02-23" which discusses a dielectric device using a wire mesh within pads, construction consistent with what KingBrand appears to be offering. The article also reports approval of shortwave frequencies of 13.56MHz and microwave frequencies of 915MHz and 2450MHz.

What frequency of the EMS do the KingBrand BFST devices use/apply?

I would think the lower microwave frequency of 915MHz listed by the FDA would make sense.

Hi Jay,

I think many people get confused by the word 'levels' which can refer to two very different things.

In terms of frequency, level would mean high frequency versus low frequency (frequency is also sometimes referred to by its companion term 'wavelength').  But level can also refer to the power level at any given wavelength.  For example you can have 1 watt of power at a wavelength of 1 nanometer or you can have 1 watt of power at a wavelength of 1 micrometer or you can have 1000 watts of power at either wavelength.

There are dangerous wavelengths and safe wavelengths, and they are classified as ionizing and non-ionizing respectively.  Yes, even at very low levels, ionizing EMR is dangerous.  Non-ionizing EMR is generally safe until you get to very high powers.  For example placing  a 1 pound weight on your body won't harm you, neither will a 10 pound weight.  Lifting moderate weight is actually good for you.  But placing a 10,000 pound weight on your body will injure you.  Until you get to stupid power levels, non-ionizing energy is not harmful at all.  Ionizing energy is risky at all power levels.

That's why we really avoid getting into the science on the site.  It's very confusing and knowing the engineering behind it doesn't make it more or less effective.  As CS posted, the key thing is that the technology is safe and they are medically registered medical devices that have undergone incredible development to be both effective and safe.  You simply aren't going to find a safer option than BFST.
