General Discussion / Re: Science behind BFST
« on: May 09, 2016, 12:49:38 PM »
Thank you for your interest in our products and your enquiry about the technology behind Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy (BFST).

The BFST is a diathermic device that stimulates sub-dermal tissue. It will stimulate blood flow deep within the soft tissue, providing nutrient-rich blood and optimized blood flow to the area being treated. This energy does not penetrate to your bones. Diathermy is well recognized and accepted by the medical community as an effective means of promoting sub-dermal blood flow in order to speed up healing and recovery times.

The BFST product uses proprietary technology and is an advanced diathermic device over older technology like Ultrasound. For example, you would probably treat yourself with Ultrasound for 10-15 minutes at a power level of about 1W over a very small area. With the BFST you would be treating yourself for 20 minutes at a time, with about 10W of energy, using the unit over a much larger target area. That's 10x the power for a longer duration. And the treatments promote the blood flow for a longer period after treatment. It is also much safer than Ultrasound (as there is no risk of small, localized sub-dermal tissue damage) and does not interfere with implanted medical devices like Microwave and Shortwave devices do. It's really just newer technology that does a much better job.

Our Energy Webs produce Electro-Magnetic Energy (EMR) well below the more dangerous visible light frequencies, (within the ultra-safe bands of the EMR spectrum at very safe power levels), at a frequency that is far above the highly magnetic frequencies like Shortwave. We feel our technology is superior to Shortwave, Ultrasound, Microwave and IR LED.

The Energy Web transmitter is flexible and has been ergonomically shaped to form fit. The Wrap is form-fitting, supportive and manufactured to medical quality standards. In fact, our devices are FDA and Health Canada registered, and King Brand Healthcare Products is an FDA registered and a Health Canada certified medical company.

During treatment some users experience a heating sensation, but the device is NOT a heating pad. A heating pad merely heats the surface of the skin whereas the BFST device penetrates deep below the skin to stimulate blood flow. BFST improves circulation and promotes faster healing - Heating pads don't.

King Brand is constantly investing in R&D and one key focus of the product development behind our Energy Web is to find ways to increase the diathermic output, while simultaneously reducing the amount of heat the device produces. There is still some heat produced by the device as a bi-product of generating our diathermic energy, but we are always trying to reduce this undesirable component of the process. That we design our product to produce as little heat as possible is the most significant difference between BFST and heating pad technology - The two technologies have diametrically opposed modes of operation.

We recommend all new users start their BFST treatments at Level 1. If a heating sensation is experienced, the level used should be decreased until heating is no longer present during a treatment. Only then should the next level be used. The heat bi-product of BFST treatments works to lessen the effectiveness of BFST, so better results are gained at a lower setting where no heat is felt rather than when the area feels warm. There is no need to move up quickly in levels; many people never treat themselves at Level 3.

Unfortunately some people find the heat soothing and this encourages them to move up levels prematurely.  It's not harmful to do this, so if you find pain relief from the warmth of a session this isn't going to cause harm, you just won't get as much blood flow benefit from each treatment; flushing the area with blood from heating interferes with the device's ability to penetrate deeply.

I hope this information has been helpful, but please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions or concerns .

That is excellent news!!!!

I love that your physiotherapist recognized that healing takes time to "mature"!

I am including a link with info on that topic for everyone else following your journey:

Thank you so much for your interest in King Brand Connie!

So sorry to hear about all of the issues you have faced, and now you are dealing with Rotator Cuff injuries in your shoulders.

We do have products that will help to heal your Rotator Cuff injuries.  We have recently launched new Shoulder Wraps that target the RC area where you have pain.  First, as you mentioned, REST is very important!  RC injuries are chronic and can be re-injured very easily with even the smallest amount of stretching, movement or even by picking up something that seems light-weight.

Next, we recommend ColdCure to help relieve pain and inflammation.  Once the pain has decreased by using the ColdCure Wraps, then you would move on to the BFST Wrap.

BFST stands for Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy and uses Electromagnetic Energy to increase blood flow to help you heal quickly.  We recommend a 20 minute BFST treatment first thing in the morning, last thing at night before bed and 1 or 2 other times throughout the day.  If you over-use or strain the shoulder, do a ColdCure treatment and then wait at least 45 minutes before doing another BFST treatment.  If you decide to go back to Physical Therapy in the future, do a BFST treatment before Physio and then a ColdCure treatment after!

The new shoulder wraps we have recently launched are called the Top Shoulder BFST Wrap and the Top Shoulder ColdCure Wrap.  They are right and left side specific, but can be worn on both shoulders; order the side that you have the most issues with.  The other shoulder will be harder to get the wrap on and off, but it can be done!

Here is a link with more information about the Top Shoulder Wraps:

http://kingbrand.com/Rotator_Cuff_Treatment.php

As to your question about insurance: some private medical plans do cover the BFST and ColdCure products.  There are billing codes that you can use to call your insurance to see if you would be covered.   The codes are as follows:

E0210 for any BFST product

A9273 for any ColdCure product

Hope this helps!  Please feel free to contact us if you require any further information or assistance.

Questions & Answers About Our Products / Re: Proper Shoulder Coverage
« on: February 07, 2016, 03:11:58 PM »
Thanks SweetT for your interest in King Brand!

And yes, the Original BFST and ColdCure Right Small Shoulder Wraps are out of stock!  The  2 newer styles are lighter and more adjustable (and on sale!) so hopefully will work for you!

The BFST Side Shoulder Wrap is designed to heal soft tissue injuries in the side of the shoulder. This includes Rotator Cuff injuries, Upper Bicep Tendinitis, Deltoid injuries, and repetitive strain injuries.  The Side Shoulder Wrap comes with 3 Extension Straps that allow you to customize the fit of the wrap. This makes it easy to find the perfect fit for your unique body shape.  Also, the Side Shoulder Wrap can be used on either the right or the left shoulder, making it even more versatile!

The BFST Top Shoulder Wrap is designed to heal soft tissue injuries in the top of the shoulder. This includes Rotator Cuff injuries, Supraspinatus and Infraspinatus Tendinitis, Frozen Shoulder, and repetitive strain injuries.  The Top Shoulder Wrap also comes with a "family" of straps to allow for a custom fit.  It is however right or left shoulder specific.

If you are still trying to decide which Shoulder Wrap is right for you, pay attention to where the pain is. Is it closer to the "top" or "side"?  Still have questions? Please call us at 1-844-400-2525

Treatment Questions / Re: BFST for degenerative TFCC injury?
« on: January 21, 2016, 08:40:15 PM »
Hi Boreal! Welcome to King Brand Forum.

Degenerative TFCC or Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex Injuries of the wrist can be painful and difficult to heal.  Often the wrist is immobilized and the patient is told to avoid activities that cause pain.
Our BFST Wrist Wrap can help!  As long as there is some circulation, BFST or Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy can increase blood flow to the area and promote healing.  I would recommend the BFST Wrist Wrap in combination with cold therapy to help with the swelling, inflammation and pain.

General Discussion / Re: Mal-tracking kneecap
« on: November 21, 2015, 08:03:29 PM »
Hi KoCrm:
Sorry to hear you are having on-going knee issues!
Patellofemoral or knee cap maltracking is one of the most common causes of knee pain and can be caused by:
Tightness in certain areas of the leg (e.g. calf and hamstring muscles).
Weakness in muscles that should help maintain normal patella tracking
Altered hip, knee or foot posture.
    A shallow Patellofemoral groove.
We always recommend that you see a doctor or physiotherapist, apply ice therapy to help with inflammation and as you mentioned, tape the knee cap.
With proper supervision (physiotherapist) you will have to work on stretching and strengthening certain muscles to avoid damage to the cartilage and femur.
Continue with BFST treatments as well to help ensure there is adequate blood flow to the areas affected by the condition.
We wish you all the best with your recovery!

Treatment Questions / Re: My second week BFST
« on: October 25, 2015, 04:18:31 PM »
Hi KoCrm:

You do have to take it easy on the knee in order for the meniscus to heal.  Just make sure you are doing a BFST treatment before walking or standing for long periods of time and then cold treatment after to keep the swelling and inflammation under control.

Treatment Questions / Re: My second week BFST
« on: October 25, 2015, 12:47:29 PM »
Hi KoCrm:

Sorry to hear that you are not feeling any improvement.  Have you considered Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), where there's something in your lifestyle that is repeatedly putting mild strain on your meniscus?  That daily activity can be regularly causing just a little more damage than your body is able to heal in the interim, even with BFST treatments.

I would encourage you to look at how your knee 'spends its day'.  It can really be surprising where the culprit activity comes from.  In people with frontal meniscus RSI there is a sizable number who find that they sit with their legs straight and ankles crossed the same way, day after day, not realizing that those hours at the desk or in front of the TV are hours crushing their meniscus. Do you typically sit with your knee crossed?  Do you do a sport or activity regularly that is repeatedly applying the same stress or requiring the same motion for that knee?  Look for the things that don't necessarily cause noticeable stress, but that are repetitive in nature or where your knee always finds itself 'resting' in the same position for extended periods of time.  What's resting for much of your leg may actually be a stressful position for your meniscus.

The BFST wrap is the correct product to promote tissue healing in your meniscus.  It is designed for that purpose, not symptomatic pain relief.  It can help your knee recover, but it cannot prevent whatever may be causing repetitive damage (if that's your situation).  With or without the BFST treatments I'd encourage you to keep looking for what may be the root cause of your nagging injury.

Keep trying to do 3 or 4 BFST treatments per day and continue icing if your knee feels sore after activity or even after standing for a long period of time.  Remember to wait about 45 minutes after icing before doing a BFST treatment so as to get the best result from both.

Hi Jim,

Glad to hear that you are well on your way to healing!

Our products can help with your recovery.  As long as there is no swelling or inflammation you can start using the Knee BFST Wrap right away.

You can heal much more quickly with the right treatment at home.  King Brand Healthcare Products are the innovators of Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy (BFST).  Blood flow brings oxygen and nutrient-rich blood to the injured area - a requirement for the body to heal itself.  Unfortunately blood flow is restricted while an injured meniscus is at rest, which in turn limits the body's ability to heal.  Physical activity will promote blood flow but all too often it also results in minor but frequent re-injury, which extends your healing time and greatly increases the amount of scar tissue that develops.  With a King Brand Knee BFST therapy device, blood flow can be stimulated in the injured meniscus area while you're at rest.  With improved blood flow, and without physical activity and the risk of re-injury, you can recover from your meniscus injury at a rapid rate.

General Discussion / Re: BFST can you do more than 4 times a day?
« on: October 05, 2015, 04:56:09 PM »
Thank you for your question!

You can do more than 4 BFST treatments per day, however there is no real benefit from doing them back to back.  The effects of the electromagnetic energy stays in the body for up to 4 hours after treatment.  That being said, extra treatments will not cause any harm.

The more you use your BFST, the more benefit you are going to get. If you give yourself 2 treatments per day, that's much better than 1. 3 are better than 2, 4 are better than 3. The effect is cumulative, especially if you spread them out over the day. If you get closer than 2 hours between treatments the additional benefit becomes less.

The owner of the company, Scott, often compares BFST treatments to taking antibiotics for infection or Tylenol for migraines. When you need antibiotics, you don't down the whole bottle at once. You need to take them regularly for a prolonged period to get the best effect. If you take one today and one 3 days later, you're not going to get great results either.

Ideally, if you give yourself a BFST treatment every 4 hours (6 times per day) for 10 days you'll get the most benefit you can possibly get. This isn't very practical though so whatever the customer can fit into their lives the better.

Wonderful to hear that you are seeing improvement!  And yes, the BFST Achilles Wrap would help to speed up your recovery after surgery.
As to using the 2 products in combination, use the ColdCure Wrap after being on your feet to reduce swelling and inflammation, then wait about 45 minutes before using the BFST.  Also, if you know you are going to be active, use the BFST before the activity, followed by ColdCure.
For best results try to fit in 3 to 4 twenty minute BFST treatments per day!
As to using your Cold Cure Wrap on the plane; the gels are food grade medical products and are not liquids.  Make sure you bring your instructions and even you invoice if you have it, just in case you have issues at security. I am not sure how you would cool the gels on the plane!
