Title: Night splints
Post by: Morningstar on January 27, 2015, 11:56:36 AM
Do you recommend the use of night splints? My foot doctor told me to use one for my plantar fasccitis but it's making the pain worse. I don't know what to do because I feel like I wasted money on something that is making my foot even more painful. At the same time I don't want to completelty disreagard my doctor's orders. Any advice?  :-\

Thank you for your question,

Sorry you are in so much pain.  We generally do not like to go against a Doctors recommendation, but if it hurts and causing more pain, you should discontinue what your doing. When treating Plantar Fasciitis, you should avoid stretching the plantar muscle, which night splints generally do.
Our recommendation would be to start with ColdCure wraps to get the inflammation decreased to enable the blood to flow through to create the ideal healing environment for the foot. Then start with 3-5 BFST treatments daily, trying to focus them before activity or work, and making sure you do one treatment before bedtime and once when you wake up.  A twenty minute treatment will allow for 4+ hours of stimulated blood flow, allowing the healing process to continue into your sleep. After a few treatments you will feel a noticeable difference upon wake up each day.  Continue with ColdCure when needed.

Hi!  I am new to the forum and have been suffering very painfully from inflamed plantar fasciitis.  Several points could not put weight on my left foot.  I went to a foot doctor here which in FLA for a few of my winter months and it's been brutal.  I have had 2 cortisone shots and bought a night splint....nothing has made one iota of difference.  I have spent a total of $1400US in the last 2 months and feeling very frustrated.  I was told to stretch, rest, ice, wear my splint and then was told I could use physiotherapy...have also had x-Rays, and an ultrasound and even was asked to get an MRI to the tune of an additional $600US.... So I found your website online and am trusting this blood flow device will really help as it makes sense to me!  I just started using it and am eager to see how I do.  I am very active....yoga, power walking, golf, bike (biking is now my only form of exercise in 10 weeks)... Here's hoping this makes a difference.  How often do you suggest I use the blood flow therapy wrap?  Is it still worth icing??  Or am I past this point?  Have had plantar f before, but NEVER to this degree of pain...thought I was going to have to buy crutches!!  Thanks....Debbie

Hi Debbie,
Thank you for your posting and questions.  I believe I spoke with you yesterday when I called you for a follow up.  To recap what we talked about, No, it is not too late for cold therapy.  Inflammation can build up just from your day to day of walking around.  You want to treat with cold to get the inflammation addressed to enable the blood to flow through more freely.  Once the inflammation is down, we recommend 3-5 treatments a day with the BFST for 20 minutes.  After each BFST treatment, the blood flow is stimulated for a good 3-4 hours after.  This stimulation will bring the good, nutrient rich blood to the damaged tissue area to help heal and repair.
With you being an active person, when you are feeling better and more active again, we recommend BFST before activity and ColdCure after.  This acts as preventative maintenance to help ensure that you don't get another flare up.
It was nice talking to you and I hope all this information helps.  If you have any further questions regarding your treatment, please do not hesitate to contact us through the forum or directly on the phone.
