What is Diabetic Neuropathy?

Diabetic Neuropathy (also known as Peripheral Neuropathy or Diabetic Feet) is characterized by nerve damage to the hands and feet (the peripheral nervous system) of diabetics. While there are many different causes of peripheral neuropathy, the most common cause is diabetes. Symptoms of diabetic neuropathy include pain, tingling, weakness, numbness and increased sensitivity in your hands and feet.

How to Treat Diabetic Neuropathy

The problem with treatments such as painkillers and localized cortisone injections for treating diabetic neuropathy is that they only mask the pain. They don't do anything to treat the condition itself. There are also serious dangers associated with these treatments. While there is no cure for diabetic neuropathy, there are steps you can take to reduce your symptoms and prevent further nerve damage:

  • Although difficult, working to maintain healthy blood glucose levels will help prevent further nerve damage
  • Ways to keep your system well-controlled include: avoiding drinking alcohol and smoking, eating healthy and exercising regularly
  • Promoting blood flow to the affected area(s) will improve your circulation and provide symptomatic relief

In order to improve your blood flow, we recommend a combination of physical therapy and Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy (BFST®) treatments. Physical therapy helps to improve strength and mobility through movement, which will promote blood flow to the affected area(s). BFST® Wraps stimulate blood flow while the body is at rest, allowing you to bring additional blood flow to your peripheral nerves without risking further damage. These two treatments together will result in optimum blood flow, which greatly benefits the circulatory system.

Diabetics & BFST®

Diabetics and BFST Treatment

Since people with diabetic neuropathy often lose feeling in their hands and feet and/or become sensitive to hot and/or cold, it's advised that you only use the BFST® Wrap if you aren't experiencing any of these symptoms. However, you will still benefit from physical therapy.

For optimal results, try to do your BFST® treatments when you will be in a period of controlled glucose levels (between 4-10 mmol/l or 70-180 mg/dl). Test your blood glucose levels before each BFST® treatment and again 1 hour after treatment. If your blood glucose has gone below 4 mmol/l (70 mg/dl) or above 10 mmol/l (180 mg/dl) in the hour since your BFST® treatment, do your best to regulate it again. This will ensure optimal glucose levels during the effective period of the BFST® treatment. If you feel hypo-symptomatic or hyper-symptomatic during a BFST® treatment, test your blood sugar and treat accordingly.

If you are doing physical therapy, it is recommended that you do a BFST® treatment prior to your appointment. This will act as a warm up for your circulatory system and help with your mobility during physio.

How BFST® Works

BFST® Wraps are electrical medical devices that work using our proprietary Energy Web®. The Energy Web® is specifically designed to conform to the exact shape of the area you're treating. The entire surface of the Energy Web® outputs stimulating and incredibly safe EMR energy. This energy envelops the affected area and easily passes right through your skin and fat. The energy focuses itself deep within the affected area, stimulating blood flow in the underlying tissue (your muscles, tendons and ligaments). With increased circulation comes nutrient-rich, oxygenated blood flow. Improved blood flow will greatly benefit your circulatory system and provide significant symptomatic relief, which is why BFST® is exactly what you need.

Peripheral neuropathy is also known as diabetic neuropathy or diabetic feet. Diabetic feet plague many people. Diabetic neuropathy causes foot pain, foot sensitivity, foot numbness, foot tingling and foot weakness. The most common cause of peripheral neuropathy is diabetes. Treatment for peripheral neuropathy includes TENS, painkillers, localized injections, othopedics, etc. These will treat the pain but not the underlying condition. To treat the condition itself, stimulate blood flow through physical therapy and BFST treatments. This will help improve circulation and provide relief of symptoms. There's no doubt that to promote blood flow you need BFST treatments. Peripheral neuropathy symptoms are hand pain, hand numbness, hand weakness, hand tingling and hand sensitivity. A sore foot can be helped with painkillers although painkillers won't cure diabetic neuropathy. The best peripheral neuropathy treatment is BFST. These wraps are incredible. They feel comfortable. They work.
